To be honest, I just don't feel up to the task of reviewing a Gothic classic like Rebecca. I'm not worthy. If you are a fan of Gothic fiction then this is a book you have to read. The first Mrs. de Winter, Rebecca, haunts the halls of Manderley and the pages of the book. Manderley is a character unto itself, dark and brooding. Mrs. Danvers terrifies while the second Mrs. de Winter invokes both pity and frustration. Maxim de Winter is as sullen as his home until events unfold that force his hand and his passions.
A psychological creepfest. Perfect Halloween reading, indeed.
