Blade of the Immortal: Volume 8: The Gathering

by Hiroaki Samura, 202 pages

With his fugitive status, Manji won't be able to get through the checkpoint out of Edo undetected, so determined Rin decides to go it alone...without telling him...and without realizing that her own face is no longer as unknown to the authorities as it once was. Needless to say, her bodyguard doesn't take it too well.

Ouch, Manji, that's gotta hurt! It's very useful to be nigh-immortal, but that means you have to put up with a lot of unpleasantness a normal person wouldn't survive long enough to experience. Watching the faces of his opponents is both scary ('cause, hello, they're not very nice!) and darkly hilarious. I even feel a little sorry for them, but only a little (they're funny guys, but again, not very nice!). I hope he does what he needs to do and catches up to Rin soon. It's a dangerous world out there, as Samura takes pains to remind us whenever we get complacent. *nervous*
