Ashes is a zombie, survival, adventure, controlling society story. It's got a little bit of everything and I think that's why I liked it. It does change about halfway through the book from a survival story to more of a controlling society tale, but I felt this made the book engaging. I really liked the main character and she kept me interested. The ending is a bit of a cliff-hanger (and an annoying one at that!) but it has me very interested in the next book!
